Okaloosa 911 Division of Public Safety gains international accreditation

Okaloosa Public Safety's 911 Division was recognized Nov. 17 at the county commissioners' board meeting for becoming the 204th Emergency Medical Dispatch Accredited Center in the world. 911 Division members present were, from left, 911 Coordinator Christine Cooper, Interim Public Safety Director Paul Lawson, Communications Supervisor Nina Hawkins, 911 Quality Assurance Trainer Linda Sapp, Technician Dave Dietz, Supervisor Jose Perez, Technician Jessica Ward and Division Chief Daniel Dunlap.

SHALIMAR — The Okaloosa County Department of Public Safety has become the 204th Emergency Medical Dispatch Accredited Center in the world.

The International Academies of Emergency Dispatch's Board of Accreditation approved the 911 Communications Division.

“Okaloosa County takes the public safety of its citizens very seriously, as demonstrated by the commitment to excellence in the 911 Division,” Okaloosa County Commission Chairman Nathan Boyles stated.

The IAED — a non-profit standard-setting organization promoting safe, effective emergency dispatch services worldwide — is an Accredited Center of Excellence, offering the highest distinction in 911 emergency communication services.

The 911 Division of Public Safety demonstrated the associated “20 Points of Excellence,” which measures operational effectiveness, addresses system oversight, quality improvement programs and individual certification of all emergency call-takers.

Okaloosa County Public Safety will be featured in The Journal of Emergency Dispatch and recognized on the International Academies of Emergency Dispatch website, www.emergencydispatch.org/AccredCurrentAces.
