NICEVILLE — Sasha Jarrell will serve as Northwest Florida State College's interim president until a new president is selected, the board of trustees announced.
Jarrell — whose appointment is effective Jan. 1, 2016 — currently serves as the college's vice president of Academic Affairs.
Brian Pennington, NWFSC board of trustees chairman, noted Jarrell's experience as an executive-level administrator at the college as well as her experience as chair of the mathematics department and a faculty member there.
Jarrell began her higher education administration pursuit as a graduate teaching assistant in the Department of Applied Discrete Mathematics at Auburn University. After graduating from there with her Ph.D., she served as an assistant professor in the department of mathematics and statistics at Coastal Carolina University in Conway, SC.
Jarrell came to NWFSC as a lead faculty member in the department of mathematics in 2006.
Ty Handy, NWFSC's former president, resigned after five years at the college.
