Northwest Florida actors wanted for 'The Music Man' production

FORT WALTON BEACH — Northwest Florida residents can audition for a local production of the classic musical, "The Music Man."

Auditions will be held at Stage Crafters' Rehearsal Hall — 40 Robinwood Drive SW,

Fort Walton Beach — as follows:

●Kids auditions, for ages 8-14, are scheduled for 2-5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 13, with scripts available at 1:30 p.m.

●Adult auditions, for ages 15 and above, are scheduled for 6:30-9:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 14-15, with scripts available at 6 p.m.

"We require no less than 25 supremely talented men, women, boys and girls of varying ages to fill out this delightful cast," a spokesperson said. "Please be prepared to sing selections from the musical and read dialogue."

"The Music Man," a musical by Meredith Willson, opened on Broadway in 1957.

In the production, con man Harold Hill poses as a boys' band organizer and leader and sells band instruments and uniforms to the naive Iowa townsfolk, promising to train the new band members.

But Harold is no musician, and he plans to skip town without giving music lessons.

Prim librarian and piano teacher Marian sees through him, but when Harold helps her younger brother overcome his lisp and social awkwardness, Marian begins to fall in love. Harold risks being caught to win her.
