Crestview man accused of damaging a church, resisting arrest

CRESTVIEW — Crestview police arrested a local Feb. 5 for allegedly causing about $2,000 in damage to a church and resisting arrest without violence.

Andrew K. Appleberg, 27, of Crestview, faces charges of criminal mischief — damage greater than $200 — to a church and resisting an officer without violence after the incident.

According to a CPD media release, Appleberg entered The Summit church at 100 Duggan Avenue and began damaging equipment in the sanctuary and offices inside the church, and "refused to provide his complete identification to law enforcement officers" at the scene.

One of the witnesses to the incident told police Appleberg started to get upset after he brought him to the church to help with some work he was doing.

According to the release, the defendant walked away from the man and began kicking the stage, knocking over lights, pulling wires from outlets, putting holes in the wall and more.

Appleberg allegedly flipped over a couch, damaged a mirror, put several items on the floor, and removed a refrigerator door.
