Crestview father, son plead guilty for wire fraud

CRESTVIEW — Anthony Floyd Hemphill, 38, and his father, William Hemphill, 58, of Crestview have pled guilty to federal charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud in connection with a scheme to defraud nonprofit organizations of more than $300,000.

Christopher P. Canova, Acting United States Attorney for the Northern District of Florida, announced that the Hemphills admitted between December 2013 and December 2014 they fraudulently represented that A.F.H. Construction LLC would donate modular buildings to nonprofit organizations free of charge, if the organizations agreed to pay for the transportation and set up the buildings.

According to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the Hemphills used high-pressure sales tactics to persuade the nonprofit organizations to quickly wire advance payments for transportation and set-up costs, ostensibly to prevent the modular buildings from being donated to other parties.
