Crestview High students learn about life at the Explosive Ordnance Disposal

Crestview High School student Brittany Kleback attempts to stand upright while wearing an 80-pound Explosive Ordinance Disposal suit.

CRESTVIEW — Kyle Macey, Nick Cox, Devin Stuart and Kyle Ridnger, members of Eglin Air Force Base’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal, spoke to Crestview High School outdoor education and robotics students about their profession March 10.

Students got an inside look at the profession with demonstrations using disarmed explosives.

Brittany Kleback, an outdoor education student, participated in a bomb suit demonstration. She got in the hot, 80-pound suit and, from a lying down position, had to stand upright. This task is seen as the "test" to get into EOD.

In addition, Ridnger showed students how to use "Dipswitch,” a bomb disposal robot. The robot picked up everyday items, such as a bottle and pencil.

"It was actually really cool and informational, even though I'd never join EOD because I'm scared of getting blown up,” Zoe Fliescher, a Crestview High robotics student, said.

“But, it would be really cool to work on the robot!"
