James Roscoe Vanlandingham has been sentenced to a 15-year minimum mandatory prison sentence on the charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and false imprisonment, William Eddins, State Attorney for the First Judicial Circuit, announced today.
Vanlandingham was sentenced as a habitual felony offender and a prison releasee reoffender.
The charges arose in early December of 2015. The victim contacted authorities advising Vanlandingham, her boyfriend at the time, struck her several times in the face and stabbed her in the arm with a kitchen knife.
The victim attempted to depart the scene, however, Vanlandingham prevented her from getting help and continued to attack her for approximately 20 minutes before she could escape and call law enforcement.
Vanlandingham fled the scene before law enforcement arrived.
Because Vanlandingham is designated as a habitual felony offender and prison releasee reoffender, he is not eligible for gain time and must serve his prison sentence day-for-day.
The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office was responsible for the investigation and arrest.
Circuit Judge William Stone imposed the sentence.
Assistant State Attorney Cassie K. McDonald was responsible for the prosecution.
