CRESTVIEW — Yoni Leonard Calhoun faces 55 years in prison for his involvement in a Dec. 12, 2013 shootout at a Crestview residence.
An Okaloosa County jury convicted Calhoun on charges of attempted robbery with a discharge of a firearm and causing great bodily harm; robbery with a discharge of a firearm; attempted robbery with a discharge of a firearm; and shooting at, into, or within an occupied vehicle.
The charges arose from a Dec. 12, 2013 incident at a Crestview residence.
"When the victims arrived at the residence, they were met by the defendant and co-defendants,” Bill Eddins, Florida State Attorney, stated in a media release. “The defendant and one of the co-defendants had firearms and began demanding money from the victims.
"During the robbery, the defendant pistol whipped one of the victims and shot at another victim. One of the victims managed to get into his car and, as he drove away, the defendant shot at the vehicle multiple times. The other two victims were able to escape unharmed."
Circuit Judge Michael A. Flowers sentenced Calhoun to 55 years in the Department of Corrections. Twenty-five years of the sentence is a minimum mandatory sentence.
Crestview Police Department investigated made the arrest and investigated the case. Assistant State Attorney Kimberly Torres prosecuted.
