1 injured in Crestview school bus accident

UPDATE: Charges have been filed. Lorita McLaren, a 45-year-old Crestview woman, was cited after she failed to negotiate a curve and collided with a vehicle heading in the opposite direction, according to the Northwest Florida Daily News.

CRESTVIEW — A 7-year-old is receiving treatment for minor injuries following a Friday afternoon school bus accident.

A 2007 International School Bus was traveling northbound on Jones Road in Crestview around 2:19 p.m. today as a 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche was driving eastbound.

The bus driver attempted to negotiate a curve in a westerly direction, and the Avalanche driver was attempting to negotiate a curve in a southbound direction, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.

The bus driver did not use the designated lane, causing its left side to hit the left front of the Avalanche, according to the report.  

Forty-seven students were on the bus, according to the FHP report.

One student is receiving treatment at North Okaloosa Medical Center.
