Crestview woman gets 25 years for kidnapping, grand theft auto

CRESTVIEW — Beverly Ann Burgess has been sentenced to 25 years’ state prison on the charges of kidnapping, aggravated battery, felony driving while under the influence and grand theft auto, Bill Eddins, State Attorney for the First Judicial Circuit, announced.

The charges arose from a Sept. 10, 2015 incident in Crestview. The defendant attacked the victim, her roommate, in their residence after the victim refused to take the defendant to purchase alcohol, according to Eddins’ news release. The victim was severely beaten in the face.

The defendant then handcuffed the victim and forced her into the victim’s vehicle, and the defendant drove to Wal-Mart in Crestview, according to the news release. Once there, the victim escaped from the vehicle and obtained assistance from an employee at the Wal-Mart. The defendant then left the scene, taking the victim’s vehicle.

Circuit Judge Michael Flowers imposed the sentence. The case was investigated by the Crestview Police Department. Assistant State Attorney Laresa Dudley was responsible for the prosecution.
