More than $10,000 worth of umbrellas reported stolen from beach

Someone stole nearly $10,000 worth of beach umbrellas from beach boxes located near the O’Steen Beach Access off Gulf Shore Drive in Destin Sunday night and threw a portion of them into a nearby pond.

An employee of the Emerald Grande says he arrived at work around 8:15 Monday morning and noticed some of the beach boxes open. He spotted ten umbrellas in the water and says another approximately eighty umbrellas were missing.

The beach boxes are about 100 yards from the East Pass shoreline. The stolen umbrellas have seven foot wooden poles and a six foot in diameter blue canvas with “Emerald Grande” printed on them.

Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office deputies found four of them in a nearby pond and one in the pond’s weeds. Another five were found in sand dunes near the west end of the pond.
