2017 Distinguished Young Women scholarship competition is under way

FORT WALTON BEACH — Thirteen teenagers from Okaloosa County will vie for the honor of Distinguished Young Woman of Okaloosa County 2017.

This year's participants, all Okaloosa County high school seniors, include two Crestview residents, Katelyn Roye, and Hannah Nelson.

Evelina Teran, Allison LaMay, Lauren Hutson, Kerri Kriech, Katie Schenck, and Allison Platt are Choctawhatchee High School students; Fort Walton Beach High School students are Nathalie Crespin, and Julia Turner. Niceville High School participants are Bailey Grace Propps and Catherine Parker. The Collegiate High School participant is Caitlin Hart.

DYM (formerly America’s Junior Miss) is a scholarship showcase that promotes excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, interview, self-expression, fitness, and talent. 

The program is 7 p.m. July 16 at Fort Walton Beach City Auditorium, 107 Miracle Strip Parkway SW. with the winner's medallion. The 2013, 2014 and 2015 winners will also be part of the July 16 program.
