CRESTVIEW — The Crestview Police Department is investigating a Sept. 13 traffic crash that left a pedestrian seriously injured.
Crestview resident Ricky Floyd, 31, was driving a 2006 Mazda east on U.S. Highway 90 around 9:30 p.m., when Crestview resident Shirley Scruggs, 53, stepped out of the paved median and into Floyd’s path, according to Crestview police.
Floyd couldn’t swerve or stop before striking Scruggs near Barrow Street across from Twin Hills Park, according to police, who said Scruggs was airlifted to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola. She is listed in critical condition.
No criminal charges are pending in the investigation.
A section of U.S. Highway 90 was closed for several hours after the accident as Crestview police officers completed Laser Mapping of the scene. Traffic was initially re-routed on side streets but was re-opened and returned to normal, just before 2 a.m.
It remains unknown why Scruggs entered traffic lanes, a CPD media release stated. Witnesses stated that it appeared she was attempting to flag down vehicles in the poorly lit section of the roadway just before the accident occurred.
