CRESTVIEW — Four children are receiving evaluation at a local hospital following a Friday afternoon school bus crash.

Jackie F. Clinton, 79, of Crestview was driving a 1987 Dodge northbound on State Road 85 south of Auburn Road around 2:28 p.m., according to a Florida Highway Patrol media release. Meanwhile, Dennis J. Dalzell, 69, of Crestview, was stopped northbound on S.R. 85 in a 2000 International School Bus. The bus had its warning lights and stop sign activated, and school children were exiting the bus.

The Dodge was approaching the stopped school bus from the rear and failed to stop, according to the FHP release. The vehicle then swerved to the left before striking the rear of the bus.

Approximately 35 children were on the bus when the crash occurred; four were taken to a hospital for evaluation.

"Bob Sikes Elementary bus No. 0014 was involved in an accident," Okaloosa County School District spokesperson Henry Kelley said. "Four students were transported to the hospital with minor scrapes. A second bus was immediately dispatched.

"All parents of students on the bus were contacted by school officials, and they are either at home or were released to their parents at the scene."

The bus and Dodge received $2,000 and $1,000 in damage, respectively, according to the FHP.
