CRESTVIEW — Like riding a bicycle, once you’ve directed traffic the skill never leaves you, Crestview Police Chief Tony Taylor joked as he guided evening traffic around a downtown ceremony.

Mayor David Cadle had asked for an officer to help direct Main Street traffic around the Concord Lodge No. 50 F&AM historic marker dedication Sept. 15.

With all his officers busy on patrol duties, Taylor showed up to protect members of the Crestview Historic Preservation Board, Masons and other attendees as the marker was unveiled.

“Kinda brings back some memories, doesn’t it?” Cadle quipped as Taylor waved cars turning from Cedar Avenue onto Main Street.

Taylor launched his nearly 40-year law enforcement career as a Fort Walton Beach auxiliary police officer, which included directing traffic.
