My name is Erin Davis Roberts and I graduated from Crestview High School in 1981. Our class is having a reunion along with this homecoming season at CHS and we have some information that I believe will be of interest to many folks in Crestview.
Our reunion this year is titled “Class of ’81: Old Bulldog Reunion,” because not only are we, indeed, old bulldogs, but we also have in our possession the Old Bulldog that used to stand on the pedestal in front of CHS for years and years.
It’s my understanding that he began to crumble back in 2007 or ’08, and the school decided it was time to throw out the old and bring in the new. Old Bulldog was on his way to the dump when a classmate of mine from 1981 saw it and said he would take it home, which he did, and has had it ever since.
We took the opportunity this year — which marks our 35th year since graduation — to have Old Bulldog restored and have made plans to showcase Old Bulldog in the Homecoming Parade on Oct. 7, as well as showcase him at homecoming events that evening at CHS.
I say this is of interest to many folks because, as far as I know, Old Bulldog presided over students at CHS since the school was built until he was taken down. I’m not certain about his complete history and when he was built, but I do know that the current CHS was built in 1969 and I remember the Old Bulldog up on that pedestal since I was a kid.
Lots of people have seen our plans on Facebook and have messaged me about how cool this is to restore him and bring him back out to share with the community for a day.
… He presided over a few generations and saw quite a few classes come and go …
We are very excited about this reunion and homecoming; I’ve had yet more people contacting me about wanting to attend — all because of the old bulldog!
Erin Davis Roberts attended Crestview High School and now lives in Kentucky.
