BAKER — Baker Gators’ head coach and athletic director was born Oct. 21, 1969. The Gators scored 69 points against Lighthouse Christian Academy in their Homecoming game on Friday, giving their head coach a birthday present he greatly appreciated.

“It’s an awesome birthday present to be 8-0 and to celebrate homecoming,” said Brunson, who also escorted his daughter as she was elected Homecoming Queen. The coach wore a suit and tie on the sidelines during the game to be ready for that moment.

For Taylor Brunson — who plans on attending Troy University to study nursing — her crowning was a part of a much bigger experience at Baker School.

“It’s all family. All the community is together and it’s just going to be something I’m going to miss when I leave,” Taylor said.

The game was, as expected, another blowout in Baker’s favor, with eight players scoring touchdowns. The defense scored a few turnovers and only allowed a single touchdown from the Stingrays.

The Gators look forward to their district championship game against Northview on Oct. 28.

“We’re in the mix in the North and I think if we can take care of business and beat Northview and win the district, get at least one round at home I think we’ll be right there in the semifinals vying for a chance to go to Orlando,” Brunson said. “I think that’s exciting for our program.”

For coach Brunson, an undefeated Gator team is a birthday gift that keeps on giving.
