CRESTVIEW — A Crestview Police Department officer received a minor ankle injury while chasing a suspect with a Laurel Hill address who was wanted on an outstanding warrant from the Walton County Sheriff’s office.

Anthony Michael McMillian, 40, was wanted on a Dec. 13, 2016, warrant for failure to appear and faces charges of shooting into a dwelling, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill, and felony criminal mischief causing $1,000 or more in damage.

Officer Colin Savoie sighted the suspect 9:41 a.m. Saturday at the Tom Thumb convenience store at the corner of State Road 85 and Robinson Avenue. When McMillian took off on foot, Savoie initiated a chase while calling for backup.

McMillian ran shirtless into the wooded area behind Chessher Motors. During the pursuit, Savoie twisted his ankle and could not put further weight on it. He was transported by Okaloosa County EMS to North Okaloosa Medical Center where he was released around 11:30 a.m.

McMillian was pursued by several other Crestview Police officers, including a K-9 unit, and was apprehended while hiding under materials in the backyard of a residence in the vicinity of Aplin Road and Pearl Street.

He was placed under arrest for resisting arrest without violence and transported to the Okaloosa County Jail.
