CRESTVIEW — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ local Relief Society Presidency recently presented a spiritual event at the Stake Center in Fort Walton Beach.
Speakers, singers and musicians combined their talents to magnify the "Choose Joy, Make Covenants” theme. Stake congregations include Baker, Crestview, DeFuniak Springs, Niceville, Fort Walton Beach and Sandestin residents.
Ingrid Roberts of Crestview and the Relief Society Quartet from the Niceville Ward provided prelude music for the Feb. 25 event.
Janie Brock’s talk, titled, "Life Is a Beautiful Journey … Twists and Turns Included," shared the trials and tribulations of a young married couple starting out in life.
She spoke of blessings offered by her Relief Society sisters when she had to be on bedrest during most of her pregnancy. With love and kindness, they served her until she finally had a baby after many previous tragedies.
President Mike Roberts, of Crestview, encouraged women of the church to overcome their pain and fill their souls with joy by understanding scriptures and their parables. He cited Matthew 13, where Jesus explained why he used parables to illustrate his teachings.
The LDS Relief Society began in 1842 as a way for church women to seek and relieve the distressed, according to a media release. Today it has 7 million women in 188 countries.
