College football picks, week 9

It's Halloween weekend (although Crestview will officially celebrate the occasion 6-8 p.m. Oct. 31), and you know all the ghosts, witches, black cats and goblins will be out in full force.

You can be sure that the games will have a few tricks and some treats for the fans. If you can’t make the big title game, then it’s time to start thinking bowl bids, and you’ll be looking for a big one (more money, honey).

Here are your 10 picks for the week plus a tie breaker for Oct. 28.

1. Florida State Seminoles versus Boston College Eagles: Can the Eagles do it again? Sure, why not — just about everyone is beating the Seminoles. Eagles by 3.

2. Duke Blue Devils vs. Virginia Tech Hokies: Hokies are still in the running for the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship and keep on running. Va Tech by 12.

3. Louisville Cardinals vs. Wake Forest Demon Deacons: Louisville unmasks the Demon on Halloween. Cardinals by 16.

4. Miami Hurricanes vs. North Carolina Tar Heels: Now is not the time to try to stop the Hurricanes, who win by 30.

5. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets vs. Clemson Tigers: Tigers are still in the hunt with a big win here. Clemson by 28.

6. Tennessee Volunteers vs. Kentucky Wildcats. Are the Vols ever going to have an offensive touchdown anytime soon? Maybe in this game, but they'll still lose. Wildcats by 1.

7. Arkansas Razorbacks vs. Ole Mississippi Rebels: Only because it’s a home game for the Rebels do they pull off a win by 3.

8. Florida Gators vs. Georgia Dawgs: There's no “chop, chop” in Athens, Georgia. The Gators become Dawgs meat in this game. Georgia by 23.

9. Mississippi State Bulldogs vs. Texas A&M Aggies: home game for the 12 men in this game. Aggies by 6.

10. Vanderbilt Commodores vs. South Carolina Gamecocks: The boat is slowly sinking for the Commodores. Gamecocks by 12.

Tie breaker: Penn State Nittany Lions vs. Ohio State Buckeyes will be the ESPN game of the week, not only for the rivalry between these two schools, but also for revenge on the part of Ohio State after being upset last year. This game is also for the national standings and rankings. The winner's looking for the national title and the loser for a big bowl game bid. No revenge for the Buckeyes this year. Penn State by 12.

Just about half of all these teams will be bowl eligible after Saturday night. No, Tennessee, not you, but Army is going to a bowl.
