NWF State's Crestview students excel at theatre conference

NICEVILLE — Students from Northwest Florida State College’s Humanities and Fine Arts Division attended the Florida Theatre Conference at Santa Fe College in Gainesville Nov. 8-11. They showcased their singing, acting and performance abilities to more than 60 colleges and universities.

At the conference, students audition for callbacks, which indicate high interest from transfer universities. NWFSC students collectively received 109 callbacks from 37 colleges.

Crestview students and their callbacks are listed below.

•Michael Brooks, six callbacks: Broadway Artists Alliance; Lees McRae College; Palm Beach Atlantic; University of Tampa; University of West Florida; The York Theatre

•Jacob Smith, three callbacks: Lees McRae; New York Film Academy; York Theatre

•Zachary Sticha, two callbacks: Louisiana State University; Jacksonville University

•Valerie Trolian, nine callbacks: University of West Florida; Chipola College; NOVA Southeastern University; Lynn University; Florida Southern College; Greensboro College; Florida Atlantic University; Jacksonville University; Florida School of the Arts

NWFSC offers a course specifically tailored to teach students how to be successful at college and university auditions, including how to choose appropriate literature, creating an individual portfolio to include a resume and headshots and personal marketing and other entrepreneurial skills. The students in this course perform for each other in class, hold mock auditions and provide constructive feedback to their peers.
