CRESTVIEW — Crestview High School, Davidson Middle School and Walker Elementary School were placed on lockdown early Thursday afternoon after an armed robbery at a nearby convenience store.

The robbery occurred at the Tom Thumb on the corner of State Road 85 and Old Bethel Road, according to police.

All schools in the area were placed on lockdown as a precaution, Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Michele Nicholson said.

A suspect was detained shortly after the robbery was reported, Brian Hughes with the Crestview Police Department said. The suspect was positively identified by the store clerk who reported the incident, Hughes said.

The man allegedly stole $13 worth of cigarettes at gunpoint, according to police.

The convenience store has since reopened.
