CRESTVIEW — A Crestview resident faces burglary and grand theft charges, as well as tool theft from a shed on Old Bethel Road.
According to an Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office media release, deputies arrested William Fontenot, 40, after an off-duty OCSO sergeant saw him "driving a car linked to some local break-ins, including one where he entered a Laurel Hill home while a nine-year-old boy was there alone."
The sergeant followed Fontenot until he allegedly stopped at an address on Patch Avenue, got out of the car, and went into a shed.
More deputies arrived at that location and took Fontenot into custody without incident. They towed the vehicle for potential additional evidence after a search warrant is obtained.
According the media release, deputies had been searching for a green Nissan Titan with a Florida license plate starting with "GW" due to information accumulated from a break-in where cash was stolen from a home Feb. 19 on Steel Mill Creek Road in Laurel Hill.
"OCSO deputies, with the assistance of Covington County, Alabama authorities, were able to develop [Fontenot] as a suspect … The child who had been at the house picked Fontenot out of a photographic line-up February 21st and warrants were issued for Fontenot in that case," the release stated.
