The Daniel Morgan Graduate School of National Security (DMGS) marked the commencement of its first ever graduating class this spring, awarding master’s degrees to eight students on May 20 ,with another eight set to receive their degrees later this summer. The one-of-its-kind national security graduate school based in Washington D.C. celebrated its first class of graduating students since its founding in 2014 – paving the way for a new generation of national security professionals.
President Emeritus and recognized specialist in national security law “Spike” Bowman delivered the commencement address at The University Club. During his speech, Bowman described his vision of a future in which these students will use the education they received at Daniel Morgan to make the world safer.
“Daniel Morgan was founded in the heart of the nation’s capital with the vision of preparing students for the complex and often misunderstood security challenges of the 21st century,” said Bowman. “Our work as educators is not truly done until we are certain we have secured success for our students beyond the classroom. With this first group of graduating students, our leaders and faculty have achieved just that – a 100% job placement rate – and we are proud to see our alumni continue to grow.”
Master’s degrees were awarded in three of Daniel Morgan’s specialized programs: National Security, Intelligence and Information Operations. Each student completed immersive courses that were created and led by former members of the security, intelligence, military and diplomatic communities. The student experience was enriched with full-time faculty advising, as well as an annual program of panels and events featuring leading voices such as General Michael Hayden, Former FBI Special Agent Gary Rohen and former Congressman Mike Rogers (MI-8).
Graduating students will be pursuing careers in a variety of specialties, including with DOD and contracting agencies. Daniel Morgan graduates reflected on their experience over the last three years and how the knowledge, training and skills they have acquired will prepare them for jobs in the 21st century national security landscape.
“Night classes were vital for me and allowed me to work while attending DMGS,” said one student.
“You don’t feel like a number. I have had a great working relationship with everyone that I met here,” said another. “Where else can you be taught be a Harvard professor in a class of less than seven students?”
Founded in 2014, Daniel Morgan offers an experience unlike any other in the country. Its master’s degree programs are specifically tailored to students who wish to pursue careers in national security and intelligence, offering practical experience led by top talent that prepares the students for modern careers in these demanding fields.
