LAUREL HILL — For the past eight years, members of the Laurel Hill and Crestview Presbyterian Churches have invited their friends and neighbors to take a spiritual “Journey to Bethlehem” of their own, following a candlelit path that winds through the Laurel Hill church’s grounds.
Along the way, visitors encounter the people to whom what has been called “the greatest story ever told” unfolded, the birth of Jesus Christ in a stable in Bethlehem, as portrayed by actors from several area churches.
The free event is 5:30 to 8 p.m. Dec. 8 at the church, 8115 Fourth St., Laurel Hill. Groups are welcome, and a tour begins every few minutes.
The presentation follows a winding candlelit path over level, unpaved grass. Most of the journey is wheelchair accessible.
Unlike most live nativity tableaux, the Laurel Hill Living Nativity is an interactive experience, an opportunity to reflect on the true meaning of Christmas, and for a short while, a chance for participants to eschew the frenzy and commercialism and instead, cleanse their minds to focus on what is most important about the season.
