Laurel Hill cheerleaders to host color run

LAUREL HILL — The Laurel Hill cheerleaders will be hosting a 5K next month.

The inaugural Hobo 5K Color Run is scheduled for 8 a.m. Satuday, April 6. Registration costs $30.

The race will start and finish near the baseball field at the school. The route will take runners around the neighborhoods around the school.

The idea came from Laurel Hill cheerleading coach Deidre McVay.

During a color run, runners are showered with colored powder made from corn starch.

“My sister and I have done color runs, 5Ks and glow runs before,” said McVay. “I said, ‘Let’s see about a hobo run,’ and one of the cheer parents suggested a color run.”

Registration for the event includes a color run buff, race bib, personal color powder packet and a free T-shirt. Runners need to register by March 25 to guarantee a T-shirt.

All proceeds will benefit the cheerleading squad.

“The money will go to the cost of uniforms,” said McVay. “It will also help offset the cost of competitions for this year.”

Participants will also receive free admission to the Spring Fling that will follow the color run.
