Okaloosa MedFlight visits Holt Academy

BAKER — Children attending the summer program at Baker’s Holt Academy were treated to special guest speakers last Thursday.

Okaloosa MedFlight flew in and made a presentation and showed the children the helicopter they use. Okaloosa MedFlight pilot Ed Light, flight paramedic Phil Metz, and flight nurse Amber Ratcliff were on hand to answer any questions the children had. They talked with the children about being safe, what to do in an emergency, why they chose their career and what elementary students needed to do if they wanted to do this type of work. The most important advice was “Go to school and make good grades.”

The MedFlight team was the final agency to come visit with the children during the summer. The academy brought in multiple agencies throughout the summer to educate the students about services in the area and to bring variety to their summer program.

Other agencies that visit the center this summer included the Okaloosa Sheriff’s Office, the Baker Fire Department, Okaloosa EMS and the Florida Forest Service.

“The children learned a lot and had a lot of fun,” said Hannah Lawson, director of Baker’s Holt Academy. “We are already making plans for next year.”
