CRESTVIEW — The city of Crestview invites the community to attend two outreach meetings on Jan. 11.
The meetings will both be held at the Crestview Community Center beginning at 2:30 p.m. with the economic development outreach meeting. The transportation outreach meeting will follow at 3:30 p.m.
“Reaching out to the public and letting them be in the process can bring viewpoints you haven’t thought of before,” said City Senior Planner Trae Duley. “We want more public input and involvement.”
The Crestview Area Chamber of Commerce will join city staff for the economic development outreach. The outreach is part of a grant given to the city by the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO).
“First, we’ll discuss where we’ve been and how we got here and correct some misconceptions that are out there,” Duley said. “Then, we’ll take a look at we can and can’t do based on rules and regulations. We’ll also give the public a chance to ask questions and go from there.”
At the transportation outreach, officials from the city, county, Department of Transportation and the Emerald Coast Regional Council will come together to discuss how to handle roadways differently.
“The average person doesn’t care if it’s a city, state or county road,” Duley said. “Moving forward we’re working to create a task force that the city, state and county can use to look at things in a different way because it all affects the same area.”
Duley added that after the transportation outreach, the city hopes to create a citizens’ committee that can give alternative plans for developers to consider when working on different projects.
