Lunch with the ‘Bullsters’: past, present CNB staff members meet

CRESTVIEW — When Florida Freedom Newspapers acquired the independent Crestview News Bulletin in 2007, its local publisher moved Kelly Humphrey from her position as editor of The Hub, the Northwest Florida Daily News’s weekly North Okaloosa County rival to the News Bulletin, to the Bulletin’s editor’s office.

Some Crestview News Bulletin employees past and present met for lunch recently in Crestview. The much loved and intensely community-oriented Kelly set the standard for future editors, both within the News Bulletin’s office and within Crestview and the north county’s neighboring communities.

On July 17, six current and former Bulletin staff members — whom Kelly affectionately called her “Bullsters” — gathered at The Heights in downtown Crestview for lunch and lots of reminiscing.

Several others hoped to join the gathering but had conflicting schedules, including former graphic designer Greg Allen, whose News Bulletin masthead design is still carried by the paper; and staff writers Ann Spann and Robert Young.

The Bullsters, full of happy memories, agreed as they parted ways that future, bigger gatherings of former friends and colleagues should be held.
