SHALIMAR — A Crestview resident is to serve a 35-year sentence, with 25 of them being a minimum mandatory requirement, according to a Florida State Attorney's Office media release.
Bill Eddins, State Attorney for the First Judicial Circuit, stated July 8 that Kristen Elizabeth Wagner was sentenced by Judge Michael A. Flowers to 35 years in the Department of Corrections.
According to the release, the defendant was convicted by a jury in May 2016 of attempted first degree premeditated murder with a discharge of a firearm causing great bodily harm.
The charges arose from a July 26, 2014 incident at a Crestview residence.
"After an argument with the victim, the defendant left the home and returned a short time later. The victim was standing inside the residence behind a closed glass storm door when the defendant returned," the release stated.
"The defendant stopped in the yard approximately 27 feet from the front door and pointed a firearm at the victim while demanding her keys. The victim complied by opening the storm door and tossing the keys to the defendant. The victim closed the door, turned around, and was shot in the back by the defendant through the closed glass door."
Assistant State Attorney Kimberly Torres was case prosecutor, and the Crestview Police Department investigated the incident.
