Crestview student makes Northwest Florida State history during competition

All four Northwest Florida State College students who competed in June’s national SkillsUSA Championships in Louisville, Ky., came home with medals.

Tawanda Brown of Crestview — who earned the gold medal in the Early Childhood Education category — became the first NWF State College gold medalist at the SkillsUSA national competition in school history.

The radiography team of Cassie Davis of Crestview, Brittany McLean of Shalimar and Tiffany Nubern of Crestview won bronze medals in the Career Pathways-Health Services category.

The national SkillsUSA Championships showcase the best career and technical education students in the nation.

More than 6,000 students — all state contest winners — compete hands-on in 100 different trade, technical and leadership fields.
