CRESTVIEW — The Crestview Police Department is investigating an early morning home invasion and shooting.

A Crestview resident, Tiffany Gibson, contacted the Crestview Police Department at 1:57 a.m. March 17 about a home invasion at 202 Virginia St., Crestview.

Officers arrived at 2 a.m. and "immediately began performing first aid on Ms. Gibson's 19-year-old daughter, Baylee Mendes, who had reportedly been shot by intruders," CPD Public Information Officer Brian Hughes stated in an email about the invasion.

The officer applied compression to her gunshot wounds. Crestview Fire Department and Okaloosa County EMS medics also reported to the scene, and medics transported Miss Mendes to the hospital at 2:17 a.m.

The home invasion occurred around the same time CPD officers were working on another shooting incident on Hickory Street in Crestview.

"Because (the invasion) is an active investigation, we can't release any other information at this time," Hughes stated.
