CRESTVIEW — After eight years of Florida Lego League robotics, Shoal River Middle School is finally sending a robotics team to the state championship tournament.
SRMS team LEGObones competed in the FLL Northwest Regional tournament on Feb. 13 and walked away with a Robot Technical award for Strategy and Innovation. Even more exciting, they won one of the six bids to go to the State Championship, which is May 7 in Tampa.
LEGObones team members include two returning members, eighth graders Rinoa Smith and Logan Thursby, and five new team members, eighth graders Nelly Anne Arnett and Christian Welch, seventh graders Eoin Whipple and Addison Davis and sixth grader Diego Maldonado-Negron.
Also competing and winning was Shoal Rivers rookie team the LEGOtrons. The "trons" walked away Saturday with an award in Core Values for Teamwork.
LEGOtron members include: seventh graders Riley Sandoval, Trenton Palucci, Shawn Velsor and sixth graders Ayden Paxton and Preston Taylor.
Team Coach Laurie Allen is extremely proud of these teams, their dedication and hard work and looks forward to more years of success.
