3 ways to celebrate Crestview's 100th anniversary

1. FIND OUT HOW CRESTVIEW BECAME THE COUNTY SEAT: In the first city of Crestview centennial event, Crestview resident J.E. Moore will portray State Rep. Bill Mapoles, who was instrumental in getting Crestview named the site of the Okaloosa County Courthouse, and Stan Schneider will portray a World War I re-enactor. Free performances are 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 22 and 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23 at the Warriors Hall, 201 Stillwell Ave., Crestview. The event includes music by the Crestview Community Chorders.

2.  LISTEN TO A FREE LECTURE ON THE 'EARLY EDUCATION OF AFRO-AMERICANS IN CRESTVIEW': Part Black History Month and part centennial commemoration, this lecture by guest speaker David Wheeler will focus on Carver-Hill School students in Crestview. The lecture starts at noon Friday, Feb. 12 at Heritage Museum,  115 Westview Ave., Valparaiso. Bring a sandwich and take your lunch break. Open to the public, seats are limited for this event. Call 678-2615 to RSVP.

3. PUT ON YOUR DANCING SHOES: A gala ball, "Dance Through the Decades, is 7 p.m. Feb. 13 at Fred Astaire Dance Studio, 544 Main Street, Crestview. Cost is $30 per person, $50 per couple. The ball is catered by A Grand Elegance.
