CRESTVIEW — There’s a new pack of Watch DOGS at Northwood Arts and Science Academy.

The Watch DOGS — Dads of Great Students — program kicked off Wednesday during Take Dad to School Day, and exceeded educators’ expectations.

“We were expecting maybe 50 — or 75, tops — dads,” Principal Donna Goode said.

Instead, almost 150 dads — and grandfathers, step-fathers, uncles and other father figures — attended the event, and more than 50 signed up for the Watch DOGS program.

They volunteered for day and half-day slots throughout the rest of the school year, during which they will be in various classes — including art, music and PE — and in the cafeteria and library.

“Or they’ll just be walking the halls and being an extra set of eyes and ears and being a positive role model,” guidance counselor Erin Adams said.

“It was such an amazing turnout,” Adams said. “I had goosebumps.”
