CRESTVIEW—Police blocked off both lanes of State Road 85 on Sunday morning after they discovered methamphetamine in a vehicle that had struck a power pole. The incident occurred around 10 a.m. when a vehicle driven by Alabama resident Kevin Lynn Byrd, 31, struck a power pole while he headed north on S.R. 85, police said. The incident happened in front of KFC on S.R. 85. When police arrived, they reportedly uncovered ingredients used in the manufacturing of methamphetamines. A Hazmat team was sent to the scene to safely retrieve and clean up harmful chemicals released following the crash, according to Lt. Andrew Schneider, a police spokesperson. Police charged Byrd with possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance without a prescription. "We had both lanes of 85 closed for about four hours," Schneider said. Byrd was treated for injuries and later was transported to Okaloosa County Jail. He was released yesterday after making bail. Police hadn’t identified the cause of the incident, Schneider said.
