Woman dies following motorcycle incident

Crestview police officers investigate the scene of a Sept. 7 motorcycle incident that occurred on South Ferdon Boulevard near Brock Avenue. Dawn M. Tidwell died from the incident.

CRESTVIEW — Police are investigating a Sept. 7 traffic fatality that happened shortly after 3 p.m. on South Ferdon Boulevard, near Brock Avenue.

Dawn M. Tidwell, 42, of Niceville, died after falling from the back of a motorcycle and being struck by the rear tire, according to a press release from Crestview Police.

Robert W. Dieckman, of Niceville, operated the motorcycle that Tidwell was on. Tidwell was thrown after Dieckman swerved to avoid a vehicle that was turning onto Ferdon from Brock Avenue, according to witness reports.

Tidwell was not wearing a helmet at the time, police said.

Immediately following the incident, Tidwell was taken by helicopter to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, where she died, the release stated.

Police closed a portion of Ferdon while emergency crews worked the scene. Officers also directed traffic around the scene.

Dieckman was issued a citation for not having insurance coverage and his passenger not wearing a helmet, according to the release.
