Update, 3:31 p.m.: A student has been suspended four days for the incident, according to a transcript from the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office.
CRESTVIEW — Another media entity’s report on a man allegedly carrying a gun near Northwood Elementary conflicts with the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office’s account of what actually happened.
“There was a little boy who had a hat over a stick and another boy thought it was a gun and told the teacher,” OSCO spokesperson Michele Nicholson said. “It was really much ado about nothing, but everyone is a little bit on edge.
“He had a hat over a Sharpie,” she clarified. “One of the children said he had a gun in his hoodie. He didn’t. He had a beanie and a pen. One of the kids.”
About 40 minutes ago, Crestview Community Television’s Facebook page said, “Crestview Police & Okaloosa Sheriff Deputies responded to Northwood School a short time ago after it was reported that a man with a gun was near the school.”
