CRESTVIEW — The Shoal River Middle School girls cross-country team captured the Okaloosa County championship last week, edging Ruckel for the title.
The win qualified the Mustangs for the state meet next month in Lakeland.
Medalists Alyssa Johnson, Jaylah Lawson Patricia Acevedo and Chelsea Agulara sparked the Shoal River victory.
Johnson led the pack with a seventh-place finish in a time of 14 minutes, nine seconds. Lawson took ninth place with 14:13, Acevedo 10th (14:14) and Agulara 11th (14:16). Gracie Gillis, Caelyn Grodoski and Jazmyn Martinez also contributed to Shoal River’s undefeated season.
The Shoal River boys finished in fifth place at the county meet. Kobe Delgado led the way with a sixth-place finish.
Marcus Purcell, Jack Corbin, Anthony Morales, Zane Levine, Trevor Bryant, Paul Perria and Carlos Torres rounded out the boys team.
