Martial arts championship this Saturday

CRESTVIEW — The ninth annual Northwest Florida Martial Arts Championship is at 8 a.m. Saturday at Davidson Middle School.

The event will feature many competitions including sparring, block breaking and self-defense. Many martial arts competitors from nearby states come to the event, according to Thomas Gordon, a Crestview city councilman.

"We generally get competitors from Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and of course Northwest Florida," said Gordon, whose martial arts facility will sponsor this year's event.

Two hundred competitors have signed up for the event, and approximately 400 people will observe the competition.

Tickets cost $5 for adults, $3 for children older than 5, and are free for children 5 or younger.

The entry fee to compete costs $45 for 3 categories, and $10 more for each additional category.
