VA grants one-year retroactive benefits for fully developed claims

WASHINGTON — Veterans filing an original fully developed claim, or FDC, for service-connected disability compensation may be entitled to up to one year of retroactive disability benefits.

Benefits, which are in effect Aug. 6, 2013 through Aug. 5, 2015, come from a comprehensive legislative package passed by Congress and signed into law by President Obama last year.

Filing an FDC, which requires providing all supporting evidence, reportedly is the fastest way for veterans to receive a claims decision.
