NICEVILLE — Northwest Florida State College's new welding technologies program provides graduates with the skills, knowledge and customized training necessary to become journey-level, professional welders.
The program includes six daytime courses that can be completed in three semesters at the Niceville campus. The first two — Welder Helper and Shielded Metal Arc Welder — start Aug. 19.
Completing the 2013-14 program costs about $2,800, plus supplies and books.
Graduates earn nationally recognized certifications, including Shielded Metal Arc Welder, Gas Metal Arc — or MIG — Welder, Flux Core Arc Welder, Gas Tungsten Arc — or TIG — Welder and Pipe Welder.
Employment of welders, cutters, solderers and brazers is expected to grow 15 percent through 2020, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Occupational Outlook Handbook.
