Suspicious man from fake 'Tax Appraiser's Office' canvassing area

A man is impersonating an official from a non-existent county office, according to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, which has received such reports from the Lake Silver Road area near Crestview.

Witnesses say the man — who calls himself Thomas Ryan, from the non-existent “Tax Appraiser’s Office” — is driving a white Ford F-150 pickup truck that appears to have markings on the side and lacks a county license plate.

He’s described as a white male in his late 20s to early 30s with a light-colored beard.

The Okaloosa County Property Appraiser’s Office and Okaloosa County Tax Collector’s Office say they do not have an individual by that name working for them or canvassing homes.

Anyone with information on the man is asked to contact the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office at 689-5705.
