CRESTVIEW — Antioch Elementary School Aviators recently took a step back to aviation's earliest days as third-graders in Laura Pink's science class experimented with hot air balloons.
As an extension to the school's CHOICE: Aviation and ACE — Aerospace Curriculum in Education — studies, students launched hot air balloons on Thursday.
Some of the balloons were made of tissue paper and others of dry cleaning laundry bags provided by White House Laundry of Crestview, Pink said.
1st Lt. Trevor Dahl, from Eglin Air Force Base, assisted Pink with instructions and launches through the Air Force's Engineers for America outreach program.
"I have four chimneys made to use hair dryers for heat that launches the balloons," Pink said.
Antioch is one of several north county schools offering ACE studies, a Civil Air Patrol program that enhances students' science, technology, engineering and mathematics studies.
