OCSO: Lake Silver Road canvassing seems legitimate after all

CRESTVIEW — Despite earlier reports that a man driving a white truck was canvassing the Crestview area for a non-existent “Tax Appraiser’s Office,” it seems that the visits were legitimate, the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office says.

The OCSO has learned that the Property Appraiser's Office did have someone driving a white truck working in the area around Lake Silver Road yesterday. The staff should always have an identification badge in their possession to show their affiliation, the appraiser's office stated. They are reportedly done working in that particular area.

Yesterday, the OCSO stated that a number of residents had received a visit from a man named Thomas Ryan from the non-existent "Tax Appraiser's Office." The Okaloosa County Property Appraiser’s Office and Okaloosa County Tax Collector’s Office, then, said they do not have an individual by that name working for them or canvassing homes.
