5 Davidson students to compete in state science & engineering fair

Following a regional science fair last month, five Davidson Middle School students have been selected to compete at the 2013 Florida State Science and Engineering Fair in Lakeland. 

They include: Karlie Henderson, First Place, Medicine and Health; Hannah Kelsey, First Place, Mathematics; Alexandra McCallum, First Place, Environmental Management; Shawn Cutchins, First Place, Physics; and Jacob Kitchen, First Place, Physics. 

Also recognized were: Quinn Stegner, Second Place; Katelyn Bialorucki, Honorable Mention; Coleman Young, Third Place; Cailey Ness, Honorable Mention;  Sarah Wayer, Honorable Mention; Jacob Cyrus, Honorable Mention; Chelsey Owens, Third Place; Kathleen Clark, Second Place; Jodie Meeks, Third Place; and Klarissa Williamson, Third Place. 

Klarissa Williamson, Karlie Henderson, Shawn Cutchins, Alexandra McCallum, Kricket Knonmiller, Cailey Ness, Jacob Kitchen, Katelyn Bialorucki, Kathleen Clark,Hannah Kelsey and Reese Gomez received special awards from community sponsors.

Davidson held a science fair in December and selected projects to compete at the East Panhandle Regional Science Fair on Feb. 6 at the Fort Walton Beach Fairgrounds.

The school feted winners and participants during a Feb. 14 awards ceremony.

The state competition is March 26-28 at Lakeland Center, according to the fair’s website.

Davidson’s science fair project participation is part of its Science, Technology, Engineering, Math and Medicine — or STEMM — emphasis.
