LAUREL HILL — It was shades of the old University of Houston Phi Slamma Jamma Hobo style Saturday night as Laurel Hill School’s boys basketball team hosted Florala, Ala., for Homecoming 2014.
Reminiscent of the 1982-84 Houston Cougars the Hoboes pressed the action and brought down the crowd with a half dozen dunks on their way to a 70-24 win.

“We were able to work on several different things,” Hobo Coach Kent Zessin said. “We wanted to make sure were executing things correctly. We were able to do some different defenses and stuff.
“Everybody took care of the ball well and we did what we had to do. It was a good game.”
The trio of Tee Calloway, Bryson Cooper and Max Smith were the featured performers in the aerial act as each turned in a pair of thunderous dunks.
Cooper, who had a game-high 18 points, helped the Hoboes get off to a fast start as he scored six of their first eight points.
But Calloway, who scored 14 points, was the first featured act of the dunkfest as he stole the ball and raced in for a slam with 5:35 left in the first quarter.
Not to be outdone Smith had a steal and dunk with 3:30 left in the opening stanza.
Laurel Hill led 23-10 at the end of the first quarter but the Hoboes were only getting warmed up.
Back-to-back dunks by Calloway and Cooper sparked a fast start to the second quarter for Laurel Hill.
By the end of the half the only question that seemed left to be answered was by how much the Hoboes (6-2) would win.
Laurel Hill led 38-20 at the break and outscored Florala 23-4 in the third quarter.
Cooper’s 3-pointer with 44 seconds left in the period started the running clock.
The Hoboes outscored the Wildcats 9-0 in the fourth quarter long after the game had been decided.
Smith and Cam Gordon joined Cooper and Calloway in double figures. Smith had 13 points and Gordon 10 points.
Chris Saylor added eight points and Lane Alford scored six points on a pair of 3-pointers.
