CRESTVIEW — Baseball’s future in Crestview is in good shape if attendance at this week’s Crestview Bulldog Baseball Camp indicates things to come.
Close to 60 baseball prospects ages 4-13 attended the camp and were coached by 40 Crestview High School varsity and junior varsity players.
The camp follows a time-honored pattern of teaching hitting, throwing and fielding, with the high school players giving campers some valuable one-on-one instruction.
“We try to do a lot of the fundamentals,” Bulldog Coach Tim Gillis said. “We try to do a lot of reps with the throwing portion of it and also hitting.
“And then we get to play games every day. That’s the fun part too. Hopefully we can introduce them to the fundamentals they can take with them and use.”
Gillis believes teaching baseball to the younger group gives the Bulldog players a better grasp on the things.
“I think it helps them just reaffirm some of what we do,” he said. “And then they get to hear it again and it breaks it down little bit more simple.
“Sometimes, we make the game a little bit harder than it should be, and we try to simplify it (at the camp) and make it fun.”
