CRESTVIEW — If Tuesday’s opening night performance for the Crestview High School girls soccer team is an indication of things to come the Bulldogs could be in for a good run this season.

Five different players scored goals as Crestview rolled to a 5-0 win over Rocky Bayou Christian School.

Bulldog Coach Carl Everitt said the win was a total team effort.

“We played everyone tonight,” he said. “Some of the young players showed what they are capable of this year. We’ve got a good group this year.

“When we change we don’t miss a beat. We’ve got some good young players and it’s going to be a very exciting for us.”

About the only question left unanswered Tuesday is whether the Bulldog offense or the Bulldog defense played better.

Crestview’s offense didn’t miss many opportunities when having a shot on goal.

Hannah Nolan got the scoring parade started with an unassisted goal about 20 minutes into the match.

Ashley Matthews scored on an assist from Meg Martin late in the opening half to put Crestview up 2-0.

The Bulldogs (1-0) struck for three goals in the second half. Ci Ci Planas scored early in the half on a header. Alonna Morrill’s goal made it 4-0. Haleigh Butryn closed out the scoring with a late goal.

“We played high pressured and hustled a lot,” Everitt said. “They were looking for that second ball that comes out and there was someone there to finish off the second part (to score).”

Crestview’s defense was equally impressive only allowing a pair of shots on goals. When given the chance keeper Kelsey Luckett had no problem turning back the shots from the Knights.

The defenders that helped keep the Knights (0-1) away from the goal was comprised of Brianna Sanchez, Lauren Hayes, Alyssa Benway and Jordan Richardson.

“We’ve got a really strong back four – five really and they did a good job,” Everitt said. “The back side was exceptional. They are very young and very good.”
