Okaloosa School District to get nearly $300K for new technology

Okaloosa County Schools will receive $286,358 for new technology. Funding comes from a portion of almost $3 million recovered from school saving accounts after the district changed the way it budgeted.

A presentation, unscheduled as of this writing, will be made to the board about how the $286,358 for technology will be used.

Board members have discussed using the money to purchase additional traveling laptop carts and overhead projectors.

Cathy Thigpen said she wanted to ensure schools could afford to maintain a set of laptops if they were purchased. Each computer would cost $19 per month to support if purchased, Eric Mitchell, who oversees district technology, said.

Superintendent Mary Beth Jackson initially proposed not using the money for technology, but changed her proposal at board members and the Okaloosa County Education Association's requests.
